2023 Anson Pinot Noir
Tasting Notes
Luminous cherry red
Perfumed and lifted on the nose
The wine is delicate, elegant and structured. Fruits of garden berries, just ripe cherries and accents of wild herbs. In the mouth the wine is engaging, fine detailed and succulent finishing with very fine delicate tannins and subtle acidity.
I would like to suggest that this wine drinks very well now but experience tells me it will age well over the next 3 – 7 years.
Winemaking
The fruit for this wine was sourced from the Anson Vineyard situated on the West side of Geelong in the area of Ceres.
Harvest occurred late March and the fruit was delivered to the winery in the late afternoon leading to the refrigeration of the fruit overnight. The clones are a mix of MV6 and D clones.
The following morning 95% of the fruit was destemmed, then transferred to its fermentation vessel. The fruit was allowed to warm up and a natural ferment commenced gaining momentum over the next 5 days. After 5 days the ferment was oversown with a known yeast as there was a slowing of the ferment.
Early on the cap was gently submerged by hand, then once the ferment was super active it was gently plunged once daily to moisten the skins.
At completion of the alcoholic fermentation the ferment was pressed, settled and racked to old oak for natural malolactic fermentation.
Following the 10 months in oak the barrels were racked and assembled for bottling with no fining.
